What happens during a treatment?
Naturally, an acupuncture session begins with a discussion of the problem that prompted you to seek treatment. Although this problem is indeed the focus of treatment, you can expect to spend part of your first appointment discussing your general state of health with the acupuncturist. This is because TCM views all aspects of your body, mind and spirit as being interrelated and, therefore, relevant to your primary condition. The practitioner will also observe your tongue and feel your pulse in order to establish a TCM diagnosis. Then the acupuncture needles are inserted and left for 20 to 30 minutes. If appropriate, an herbal formula may also be prescribed. The first session takes about an hour and a half, with subsequent visits lasting one hour. |
